Bags of garbage

The photos of bags of garbage on this blog do not magically appear. I fill the garbage bag up in 15 min. to an hour and take the bag to be picked up by the city. Most garbage comes from little bits everywhere that add up to one large bag when collected into a group. Photos height and width (March 26, 2024) now match original.

The intake for Pierrefonds water supply (18089 Gouin Blvd ) is downstream of the melt-water run off at 18639 Gouin.

http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/ewh-semt/pubs/contaminants/psl2-lsp2/road_salt_sels_voirie/road_salt_sels_voirie_2-eng.php 2.3.3.2 Methods involving release into waterways after processing or treating meltwater Roadway snow can be transported to snow disposal sites where snow melts and the meltwater is treated. This typically involves dumping snow at surface sites or in quarries where runoff is channelled to treatment facilities. Generally, snow disposal sites are located on impermeable or slightly permeable ground or must be equipped with a geotextile membrane. Some sites are also equipped with sedimentation facilities or are designed to direct the meltwater towards a wastewater treatment system (Gouvernement du Québec, 1991). These sites should not be located next to watercourses that could be affected by runoff. Snow scraped from the road surfaces is filled with many different kinds of contaminants: oily residue from cars, trash and corrosive road salt. This makes it too hazardous from an environmental perspective to introduce into the water table.

_______________________________ ADDED a stream output The government map has ADDED a stream output to their map of the river, where there was never a stream output in the past. This is some doing here. Look at the (year) 1947 aerial photo and the 1998 map of Pierrefonds, there is no stream, and now there is a stream.

I would like to force some lab rats to drink this waste-water for their lifetimes and see if there are any effects on the animal.
An idea I have is to collect 2 liters of the water and boil off the water and see if any salts or sediment form.

UPDATE July 2016
I tested the water.
I did get 1.5 liters of the water and boiled the water off, and no significant chemical residue resulted. The water is relatively clean at this time. I still object to the new sewage water outlet due to the possibility of "one bad day". that did happen in another city.

Only 1 liter fit in the pan. I added more water as it boiled off.

Almost all boiled off. I had expected much more residue/deposit.

1.5 liters of water boiled off with very little chemical residue. No crystals or crusts formed.
The residue I expected came from "Montreal bought 194,000 tonnes of salt last year to make streets and sidewalks safe for residents. " Montreal Gazette.
