Bags of garbage

The photos of bags of garbage on this blog do not magically appear. I fill the garbage bag up in 15 min. to an hour and take the bag to be picked up by the city. Most garbage comes from little bits everywhere that add up to one large bag when collected into a group. Photos height and width (March 26, 2024) now match original.

Solutions

1)Environment
Solutions to environment problems , big and small.

Make plastic drinking containers illegal to manufacture and sell. Make glass or metal instead of plastic for all drinking containers. Glass/metal does not float. Glass/metal will not be eaten by any animal. All coffee shops, all take along drinking water containers would be in glass or metal. https://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/plastic-bottles-1.5341617

The first problem is the increasing CO2 emissions from all the technology that uses combustion.

Vulnerability to desertification

 Trap water
Water is the most necessary thing for life.
What I would wish to do is turn all the deserts green with plants and trees harvesting the sun energy, taking carbon out of the atmosphere. AND/OR make solar collector that turn the sunlight into some kind of energy man needs, with plants that grow on the light spillover/ doesn't get captured by the solar collector. All that sunlight going to waste ( not being used) is wrong. Beavers that create dams, trap water in pools that support life. https://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/28/science/reversing-course-on-beavers.html

Panama Canal

A man made example of trapping water is the Panama canal "The dam, completed in 1935, created Madden Lake (later Alajuela Lake), which provides additional water storage for the canal."
Water falling in the mountains is trapped/dammed. All freshwater falling from the sky must be slowed as much as possible on its return trip to the sea, as the freshwater supports (plant) life.

2)Deposits

Deposits on containers or bottles today are far too low in cost.

January 29, 2021 Cans in garbage that are not worth the effort to recycle for the work involved.

Feb 12, 2021 Cans are too much trouble to get the small amount of money back, so are put with regular garbage.

August 14 2021 . It is not worth their time to get their deposit money back.

Deposits  have to be at least the same price as the contents of the container. Five ( 5) cents is too low to motivate someone to look after their garbage. So all glass and plastic containers would have an example price of  $2.00 deposit or more each. The consumer can not manufacture these bottles/containers, so enforcement is easy. If a person is poor they will not be able to enter the system of drinking beverages. Tough luck buddy.   Those selling the drinks of course oppose this idea, but our government is supposed to represent the peoples interests, not the Corporations."They claimed that the refund will act as a tax on their products and harm their sales."

3 ) City street rainwater

4) Forest fires

5) Home heating and cooling effectively.

6) Escape Velocity

7) Used car tires: The government has to mandate the recycling of used tires to be a percentage of material in all paving of city streets/roads.  They grind the used tires up in a shredder to separate the oil-rubber from the metal.

8) Solar lighting with fiber optic cable. All highrise building should have solar lighting mandated by law, or whoever pays the electricity for lighting should want a free light source .http://www.explainthatstuff.com/hybrid-solar-lighting.html
More primitive system uses a plastic bottle in the roof that plugs the hole in the roof but lets the light in.
9) Wind power

10) Repair. We should be able to repair broken items. http://ifixit.org/blog/7696/restart-center/

11) Water for drinking. 768 million people need it .This looks good, but I can't say for certain

12) Incompetence ( or evil?) . The city plants trees at taxpayer expense, then the people who cut the grass around the trees with their powered grass cutting tools damage the tree. How did the tree die? You cut the outer layer. (need photos) If done on purpose it is called girdling a tree.
"The only part of a tree that is actually composed of living cells is an extremely thin layer just below the bark called the cambium."
